FAQ

Common questions

What exactly is XAU/USD and how big is one lot?

XAU/USD is the price of one troy ounce of gold quoted in US dollars. One standard lot is 100 oz, so a one-lot position moves $1 for every 0.01 move in the quoted price. That contract size is why gold positions feel large relative to forex pairs and why margin and pip value matter so much.

What actually moves the gold price during the day?

Gold responds to real yields, the US dollar, central bank buying and demand for defensive assets when risk appetite falls. It does not move on one single input, and the weight of each driver changes with the news cycle. Treat any explanation that names one cause as incomplete rather than authoritative.

Is gold trading the same as buying physical gold in Nigeria?

No. XAU/USD is a leveraged contract on the quoted price, settled in your broker account, not metal you hold. Buying physical gold or buying into a fund are separate activities with different costs and custody arrangements. If you want metal in hand, a trading account is the wrong route.

What does leverage up to 1:200 mean for a gold trade in practice?

It means your margin requirement is a fraction of the notional value, and at 1:200 via the offshore entity a 0.10-lot position needs about $85.50 margin. One review cited 1:30 or 1:20 caps, which conflicts with that and was not verified, so check your own account terms. Leverage is a cap, not a setting to aim at.

Why does the gold price on this site differ from what my broker shows?

Because a broker quote includes its own spread and reflects its own liquidity, while a reference price is a single snapshot. The figure around 4275.0 is a reference point, not a quote you can trade at. Differences also widen around news releases and when the market is thin, so compare like with like before drawing conclusions.
